Abstract

The study investigated the perception of 255 Chinese students on the Values Education (VE) program or the Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (EsP) curriculum of Chinese schools in the Philippines. Mixed method approach was used through qualitative and quantitative research techniques, and the collected data were analyzed and interpreted using statistical tools and statistical program for social sciences software. The study showed that majority of Chinese students excellently learned from their learning performance of the Philippine VE required in the EsP Curriculum Guide. However, some items such as patriotism, values related to different jobs, and fostering values through activities and some concepts of VE were significantly lower than average learning level, and some Chinese students also had different views on the relevance of personal influences, school education, family environment, and society to VE program. Thus, this study recommends an enriched VE program for Chinese schools in the Philippines, both elementary and secondary, where Chinese ideology, systems, and practice are mainly incorporated.
