Ang Bogwa o Bonewashing ay isa sa mayayamang anyo ng oral na tradisyon ng Ifugao. Karaniwang isinasagawa ang Namogwahan (katutubong tawag sa proseso ng Bogwa) sa tuwing nagpapakita ang mga magulang na yumao sa panaginip ng mga kapamilya, kapag nagkakasakit ang isang kamag-anak, humihingi ng basbas ang isang balo upang makapag-asawang muli, at para sa simpleng pag-alaala ng mag-anak sa yumaong mga magulang. Siniyasat ng mga mananaliksik ang proseso at pamamaraan ng Bogwa sa pamamagitan ng paglista sa mga pangunahing terminolohiyang pumapaloob sa tradisyon ayon sa metodo ng oral history. Lumabas sa resulta ang 13 susing salitang nauri sa kagamitan, at 14 na salita naman para sa proseso at tauhang nababanggit sa Bogwa. Nagsagawa rin ng pormal at impormal na pakikipanayam ang mga mananaliksik sa mga direktang nakasaksi, nakaranas, at nakapagsagawa ng Namogwahan upang mabigyan ng balidasyon ang mga salitang nakalap. Maliban dito, dinalumat din ang mga nailimbag at nailathalang artikulo at video hinggil sa Bogwa bilang bahagi ng pagpapayaman ng karunungan sa oral o di nahahawakang tradisyon. Tunay na mayaman sa awtentikong kultura ang Ifugao na nakapag-aambag sa pambansang kalinangan hinggil sa katangian ng kanilang lipunan at identidad. Bogwa or bonewashing is one of the rich forms of oral traditions in Ifugao. Namogwahan – native term for the process of performing the Bogwa – is mostly performed in the following circumstances: deceased parents appear in the dreams of their loved ones particularly the family members; any of the relatives get sick; a widow asks for the blessing to marry again; and children who want to commemorate their departed parents. The researchers analyzed the process and ways of Bogwa by means of listing the primary and most common terms used in the tradition based on standards set by oral history method. It was culled out that 13 key terms on the materials and 14 key terms were used in the process and individuals mentioned in the execution of Bogwa. Aside from noting the key terms, the researchers had also conducted formal and informal interviews with individuals who had witnessed, felt, and performed the Namogwahan to validate the gathered key terms. In addition, the researchers also analyzed written and published articles and videos about Bogwa as a way of enriching oral tradition. Truly, Ifugao has a rich authentic culture that contributed to the development of the country’s identity.
