Abstract

This is a qualitative descriptive study that involved a total of 20 purposively selected Filipino junior high school (JHS) students who were interviewed to describe their national pride experience. Through content analysis, the data presented the facilitators, inhibitors, sources, and descriptions of students` national pride. Specifically, the findings showed that it is access to information that facilitates, and personal, socio-economic, and sociopolitical issues that inhibit national pride among students. Additionally, their sources of national pride reflect Filipino identity and achievements and do not include the political or economic status of the country. The descriptions of Filipino JHS students` experience of national pride depict a positive and engaging experience with social, cultural, and civic dimensions. While students exhibit "proud to be Filipino" sentiments, it appears that their pride is inclined towards an uncritical type of esteem. Importantly, the findings served as a basis in the framework for teaching national pride.
